The Problem
Her Idea, a San Francisco-based nonprofit, empowers young women through real-world project experiences. While their mentorship program is exceptional, their website did not effectively communicate its value proposition to students, parents, mentors, and potential partners.
Website Redesign & User Experience Improvement
Her Idea sought a website that effectively communicated its mission and impact. Recognizing the existing website's shortcomings, I embarked on a redesign process, iteratively refining the platform based on user feedback and organizational goals. The revamped website now clearly articulates Her Idea's value proposition to students, parents, mentors, and potential partners.
Initiating A Collaborative Partnership
Recognizing an opportunity to contribute design expertise to a non-profit, I reached out to Her Idea. This proactive engagement led to a collaborative partnership encompassing website redesign and mentorship for program participants.
User-Centric Design Focus

Organizations
The website design prioritized the needs of key user groups: students, parents, potential partner schools, and organizations. This user-centered approach ensured that the platform effectively communicated Her Idea's value proposition to each audience segment.
Design Iteration & Refinement
I developed initial website wireframes and mockups, establishing the foundational structure and hierarchy. Collaborative feedback from the Her Idea team and user testing informed subsequent design iterations, resulting in a refined and user-centric platform. Click here to see my designs in more detail.
I created the first iteration of the Her Idea Website Design. I went over it with the Her Idea team and got some
direction for design changes.
After going over feedback from the Her Idea team, I created the second iteration of the design.
I made changes to some of the pages.

Addressing Accessibility Concerns
Initial user feedback highlighted readability issues within the website design. To enhance accessibility, we implemented a revised color scheme that adheres to established guidelines, improving overall user experience.
The pink color we were using along with our white background wasn't in line with web content accessibility
guidelines (WCAG). It was not visible and really hard to read for some of our users.
Her Idea already had a set of branding colors they use on all their social media and other content. We
decided to replace the primary pink color with their main green color to pass WCAG guidelines.
Mentorship & Program Involvement
Expanding my role within Her Idea, I became actively involved in the organization's mentorship program. Alongside website development, I mentored a high school student working on a climate change mural project. This experience offered valuable insights into the program's dynamics and the challenges faced by young women pursuing their passions.
I mentored a student who was looking to build a mural about Climate change. I went to an event to raise awareness about the mural and about her project. Click here to read about Persistent Planet.
Ongoing Collaboration & Expansion
The redesigned website has been successfully launched and is receiving positive feedback. My ongoing involvement with Her Idea includes optimizing the website for mobile users and exploring new project opportunities. Continued mentorship of program participants remains a key focus.
Reflecting on Impact
My experience with Her Idea has been incredibly rewarding. Initiating the website redesign opened doors to broader involvement, fostering meaningful collaborations and a deep connection to the organization's mission. The opportunity to mentor young women and contribute to their growth has been particularly fulfilling.
