The Problem

Effective gut health management is crucial for overall well-being, yet dietitians face significant challenges in tracking and analyzing key factors influencing patient outcomes. Current tools are fragmented and inefficient, hindering their ability to provide personalized care. This results in time-consuming data management, limited insights, and suboptimal patient outcomes.

There's a clear need for a comprehensive platform that streamlines data collection, provides actionable insights, and empowers dietitians to deliver more effective treatments.

Sizzle: A Unified Platform for Gut Health

Sizzle addresses the inefficiencies of fragmented gut health tracking. By consolidating patient data into a single platform, we streamline the workflow for both dietitians and patients. Dietitians can efficiently manage appointments, access patient data, and make informed decisions. Patients benefit from a simplified tracking experience, fostering consistency and engagement in their gut health journey.

My Role

As a UX/UI Designer, I played a pivotal role in shaping Sizzle's dietitian-facing platform. Through user research, I gained deep insights into dietitians' workflows and pain points. These findings were translated into high-fidelity designs that prioritized efficiency and usability. I collaborated closely with a cross-functional team to deliver an MVP within a six-month timeframe. My focus was primarily on the dietitian experience, but I also contributed to other product areas as needed.

Patient Directory

Dietitians often struggle to manage a large patient load with diverse health conditions. To address this, I spearheaded the design of a patient directory featuring a card-based system. This approach aimed to provide a clear and concise overview of each patient’s status.

My Process

  • Conceptualized the card-based directory structure.

  • Iterated on multiple design variations based on team and user feedback.

  • Successfully addressed the challenge of effectively communicating complex patient metrics through clear and intuitive visualizations.

Design System: Expanding A Minimal Foundation

Starting with a limited design system, I expanded the platform to create a robust foundation for the desktop experience. This involved developing comprehensive typography, color palette, and spacing guidelines, as well as establishing a core component library. By significantly enhancing the existing system, I contributed to a more cohesive and efficient design and development process.

Meal Logs and Timeline: A Comprehensive Patient Overview

To provide dietitians with a holistic understanding of patient data, we developed Meal Logs and Timeline. Meal Logs offer a week-long summary of a patient's food intake and related symptoms, while Timeline provides an in-depth daily view of all tracked metrics. These tools work in tandem, enabling dietitians to identify potential correlations between diet, symptoms, and other factors.

Sizzle’s Next Steps

MVP Launched

Private BETA

Sizzle has successfully launched its MVP and is currently refining the product through private beta testing. Building on the initial success, I was re-engaged to contribute to the development of the patient-facing mobile app. In addition to this core project, I supported the broader product team with various design tasks and internal initiatives.

Reflection

Working at Sizzle immersed me in a dynamic startup environment that demanded rapid adaptation and collaboration. I honed my ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams, including founders, developers, researchers, and fellow designers. The fast-paced nature of the project pushed me to become a versatile designer, capable of quickly iterating on designs based on feedback and evolving requirements. This experience provided invaluable insights into the startup world and laid a strong foundation for my design career.
